CALL TO WORSHIP

John 14:23-27 ~ Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me. “All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

COMMUNITY PRAYER: CELEBRATION, LAMENTATION, REPENTANCE

Structure: Minister reads a verse or two from a selected passage. Afterwards anyone can pray aloud any praises, thanksgivings, requests, and laments.

Prayer from Psalm 46:1-11

1-6 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts.

Pray aloud…

7-11 The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Come and see what the Lord has done, the desolations he has brought on the earth. He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire. He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Pray aloud…

DISCUSSION (All)

SERMON (Rev.Troy Wilson): JESUS’ RESPONSE IN OUR FEAR

Luke 24:36-49 ~ 36 And just as they were telling about it, Jesus himself was suddenly standing there among them. “Peace be with you,” he said. 37 But the whole group was startled and frightened, thinking they were seeing a ghost! 38 “Why are you frightened?” he asked. “Why are your hearts filled with doubt? 39 Look at my hands. Look at my feet. You can see that it’s really me. Touch me and make sure that I am not a ghost, because ghosts don’t have bodies, as you see that I do.” 40 As he spoke, he showed them his hands and his feet. 41 Still they stood there in disbelief, filled with joy and wonder. Then he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” 42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43 and he ate it as they watched. 44 Then he said, “When I was with you before, I told you that everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and in the Psalms must be fulfilled.” 45 Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. 46 And he said, “Yes, it was written long ago that the Messiah would suffer and die and rise from the dead on the third day. 47 It was also written that this message would be proclaimed in the authority of his name to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem: ‘There is forgiveness of sins for all who repent.’ 48 You are witnesses of all these things. 49 “And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven.”

  1. PEACE of Christ in our fear

  2. PURPOSE of Christ in our fear

  3. PROMISE of Christ in our fear

RESPOND BY GIVING GENEROUSLY

Tithes / Offerings can be deposited in the Vase on the Communion Table OR on our website (“Giving” tab) OR Text the amount to: 415.688.2226

2 Corinthians 8:9 – “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.”

RESPOND BY RECEIVING COMMUNION

PRAYER OF CONFESSION… Humble yourself before God and confess any sinful attitudes, actions, inactions, and patterns without defending yourself. Psalm 51:1-2 – “Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING… Thank God for his mercy and forgiveness – given to us through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Psalm 32:5,11 – “Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.” And you forgave the guilt of my sin. Rejoice in the Lord and be glad.”

FEAST TOGETHER… Renew your vow to follow Christ by partaking of God’s grace: the bread (Gluten-Free) symbolizes Christ’s body that was broken for us and the red wine / white grape juice symbolizes Christ’s blood that cleanses us from sin.

WORSHIP THRU SINGING

Man of Sorrows

Verse 1

Man of sorrows Lamb of God

By His own betrayed

The sin of man and wrath of God

Has been on Jesus laid

Verse 2

Silent as He stood accused

Beaten mocked and scorned

Bowing to the Father's will

He took a crown of thorns

Chorus

Oh that rugged cross my salvation

Where Your love poured out over me

Now my soul cries out hallelujah

Praise and honor unto Thee

Verse 3

Sent of heaven God's own Son

To purchase and redeem

And reconcile the very ones

Who nailed Him to that tree

Bridge

Now my debt is paid

It is paid in full

By the precious blood

That my Jesus spilled

Now the curse of sin

Has no hold on me

Whom the Son sets free

Oh is free indeed

Verse 4

See the stone is rolled away

Behold the empty tomb

Hallelujah God be praised

He's risen from the grave
