Sunday, December 15 @ THE TABLE Church SF
WELCOME / PREPARATION: Happy Advent Season! We’re glad you’re gathering with us for worship @ THE TABLE Church SF! We pray that God gives you rest and relationship through the good news of the Gospel and through the people you meet. Our worship gathering includes space for: Quiet Reflection, Celebratory Singing, Lamenting, Praying, Discipleship in God’s Word, Open-Discussion, Communion, Social Justice, and Fellowship. If you’d like to connect with others in a Bible study or connect with our Pastor, see info at the bottom.
*What is Advent? Advent is a word that means “coming” or “arrival.” It is a four-week period in which the church looks back to Jesus’ first coming as our Savior and looks forward to his second coming as our Judge. Just as John the Baptist told the Jewish people to “prepare” for the Lord’s coming, we need to encourage each other to be ready for his coming again, when he will fulfill God’s promises and renew all things. Indeed, the kingdom of God will come “on earth as it is in heaven” – the wolf will lie down with the lamb, death will be swallowed up, the dead in Christ will rise to new life, and every tear will be wiped away. As Isaiah the prophet says, “Prepare the way for the Lord... The glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all people will see it together” (Isaiah 40:3-5).
*So what do we do during Advent? We wait and prepare ourselves. We commit ourselves to spiritual renewal through weekly Sunday worship and daily prayer as the means of God’s grace. We fast by giving up something we enjoy on a regular basis to deepen our hunger and desire for God. We give alms for those in need. We tell others about the joy and hope of Jesus’ return to be king and put the world to rights. We pray the final prayer in the Bible, “Come, Lord Jesus!” (Revelation 22:20).

CALL TO WORSHIP
Luke 1:26-45 ~ 26 In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. And the virgin's name was Mary. 28 And he came to her and said, “Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you!” 29 But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and tried to discern what sort of greeting this might be. 30 And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.” 34 And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?” 35 And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God. 36 And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. 37 For nothing will be impossible with God.” 38 And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her. 39 In those days Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country, to a town in Judah, 40 and she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. 41 And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the baby leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, 42 and she exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! 43 And why is this granted to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me? 44 For behold, when the sound of your greeting came to my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. 45 And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.”
CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER (Congregation prays aloud)
Stir up your power, O Lord, and with great might come among us; and, because we are sorely hindered by our sins, let your bountiful grace and mercy speedily help and deliver us; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen. (Source: The Book of Common Prayer)

And the mountains in reply
Echoing their joyous strains.

Why your joyous strains prolong?
What the gladsome tidings be
Which inspire your heavenly song? [Refrain]

Him whose birth the angels sing;
Come, adore on bended knee
Christ the Lord, the newborn King. [Refrain]
4 See within a manger laid

With us sing our Savior's birth. [Refrain]

SERMON (Rev.Troy Wilson): KINGDOM LYRICS
Luke 1:46-55 ~ 46 And Mary said: “My soul glorifies the Lord 47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, 48 for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, 49 for the Mighty One has done great things for me – holy is his name. 50 His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation. 51 He has performed mighty deeds with his arm; he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts. 52 He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble. 53 He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty. 54 He has helped his servant Israel, remembering to be merciful 55 to Abraham and his descendants forever, just as he promised our ancestors.”

CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER (Congregation prays aloud)
(Source: The LORD’S Prayer, Matthew 6 – Jesus’ disciples asked Him how to pray and Jesus said: pray like this…)
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION… Humble yourself before God and confess any sinful attitudes, actions, inactions, and patterns without defending yourself. Psalm 51:1-2 – “Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.
PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING… Thank God for his mercy and forgiveness – given to us through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Psalm 32:5,11 – “Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.” And you forgave the guilt of my sin. Rejoice in the Lord and be glad.”
FEAST TOGETHER… Renew your vow to follow Christ by partaking of God’s grace: the bread (Gluten-Free) symbolizes Christ’s body that was broken for us and the red wine / white grape juice symbolizes Christ’s blood that cleanses us from sin.
